Sturgis firefighter fired after alleged criminal sexual conduct with 16-year-old

Sturgis Fire Department firefighter Jason Snyder was fired following an internal investigation, the Fire Department said in a press release Friday.

Court documents show Snyder is accused of criminal sexual conduct with his daughter's 16-year-old best friend. The Sturgis Fire Department said Snyder was put on non-paid administration leave earlier this month for violating Departmental General Orders. As a result of internal investigation Snyder was terminated on Friday, Aug. 29.

The Sturgis Fire Department said the decision was a result of multiple violations of Departmental General Orders. The department also said they have asked the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department to investigate the allegations of improper conduct to see if they constituted violation of any criminal laws. The Sheriff's Department is still investigating the case.
