A community continues to mourn for a life that ended too soon.

Tuesday a vigil was held for 11 month old Micahyah Crockett.  Crockett died Monday, his mother has been charged with his death.

The baby's father said he never thought this could happen.

"I just want to know why.....they was just children they did not ask to be born into this world but they was thankful to be born into this world, I was thankful they were born into this world," says Micahyah Greer.

Nyesha Crockett is charged in the death of her son Micah... and the abuse of her daughter Alaiyah.  Police say Alaiyah was injured back in February... and is now comatose.

So why was Crockett allowed to have custody of Micah for the past six months?

Court documents explain... Crockett claimed her daughter wrapped herself in a scarf and suffocated. Quote "Medical personnel examined Alaiyah and believed that the story was consistent with their findings."

Greer believed her story as well.

"I wouldn't know she did something to my daughter, she said she didn't the hospital reports came back that it was a seizure so I really didn't know she would do something to my daughter either until these last few days," says Greer.

Everything changed over the weekend..... after Micah was killed... and Investigators confronted Crockett..

That's when... according to the affidavit ... "Crockett admitted (to me) that her story to medical personnel was a lie. She stated that she used the scarf to strangle Alaiyah."

Crockett also admitted suffocating Micah.
