Crime victim's advocate charged with crash crimes

Posted: Updated:

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A woman who works as an advocate for Genesee County crime victims has been charged with covering up a fatal hit-and-run involving her son.

The Michigan attorney general's office has filed charges against Sherry Long, son Scott Gunn and his father, Leon Gunn.

A pickup truck struck and killed Jeff Lee in Flint last year. Authorities say the Silverado was registered to Long but driven by Scott Gunn.

Long is charged with tampering with evidence, conspiracy and interfering with police. Her son faces three charges, including failing to stop at a fatal accident.

Police say the truck was secretly repaired and that Long attempted to influence witnesses.

Messages seeking comment were left for Long and Leon Gunn. Scott Gunn's phone isn't listed.

Long is suspended from her county job.
