News Anchor

Traci Capellman

When I made my first trek to Notre Dame as a college student, for a Pitt vs. Notre Dame game, I never could have imagined the profound impact this area would eventually have on my life. I was studying communications at the University of Pittsburgh at the time and some friends and I decided to make a road trip to South Bend for the game. Truth be told, our Pitt Panther team was pummeled in that game but the beauty of the campus and area left an impression on me. If anyone had told me that weekend, that a few short years later, I would move here, end up having an extensive broadcast career at the Fox affiliate here, fall in love with my husband here, and become the mother of two beautiful girls here, I would've written them off as someone who had done a little too much tailgating! But after 17 years here, Michiana is definitely home.

I'm a Pittsburgh native who went to the University of Pittsburgh for Communications and I started my career there behind the scenes at television stations including WPXI-TV and radio stations like WWSW. I jumped at the chance for my first on-air job at the Fox affiliate in Johnstown, PA where I was a reporter and fill-in anchor. In January of 1996, I joined the Fox 28 News team as a general assignment reporter. A year later, I moved to Indianapolis for a brief stint as a reporter at Fox 59, before returning to Michiana when I was given the opportunity to anchor Fox 28 News at 10.

In addition to anchoring, I still love what drew me to this profession, telling fantastic stories. I'm a journalist at heart. I'm very involved in our shows, in the writing and editorial process. And I still work on special features for the newscast and in-depth reports. It's been an honor to earn many Associated Press Awards for my work including several for Best Investigative Reporting, Best Enterprise Reporting, Best Spot News Reporting, Best Feature Reporting and Public Affairs/ Documentary Reporting.

Even though, it's been more than a decade, we still have people learning that I am married to Steve DuVal, our Morning News Anchor here on Fox 28 News. Yes, we met here at work, but didn't get to know one another for a long time because of our polar opposite shifts. I often joke that as I was searching for the man of my dreams, he was sitting at the next desk. We just didn't know it. We have two little girls, Delaney and Londyn. And those crazy opposite shifts have been a blessing to us as very involved parents.

I can't say enough about how awesome it is to be a part of the entire Fox 28 team including my co-anchor, FOX28's Tom Powell, John Fischer and Dean Huppert. We have so much comraderie, more than any other place I've worked. We work hard but genuinely enjoy each other's company and are a family outside of work. There's an honest ribbing that you can only pull off on-set when you know one another as well as we all do. We hope we are bringing some of the fun we have at work, to you at home on FOX28 News at 10.

Life is so busy, but I feel strongly about giving back and volunteering in the community as much as possible. In addition to volunteering as much as I can at my daughters' school, I help emcee many events and raise money for charities every year. My work has included volunteering with organizations including: The American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish, The St. Joseph County Humane Society, Michiana Family Magazine, The Elkhart County Humane Society, the Reading with Rufus program, and the Salvation Army. If you see my family out at one of these events or even in the community, stop and say hi. When I'm not busy with family, work or volunteering, I have become addicted to "spinning" classes and other physical fitness classes, love playing with my two Golden Retrievers and absolutely love our beach time on Lake Michigan.
