Salt shortage for winter season

Michiana drivers could be in for slippery roads this winter.

A road salt shortage brought on by the heightened demand for salt last winter could force many cities to salt fewer roads.

Many communities are abandoning salt for cheaper and less effective sand.

LaPorte County has 20-thousand tons of salt for the upcoming winter, half of what they usually need.
